Also, we have received a lot of opinions that daily volunteer activities are very essential. Please give us your opinions how to make the best use of the newsgroups of InterVnet or questions about InterVnet. Please send your opinion by E-Mail or fax as follows. *E-Mail Address: --------------- -NIFTY-Serve : PAG02023 -PC-VAN : BTG90492 -Internet : PAG02023@niftyserve.or.jp *The office of InterVnet: ------------------------ -Contact : Ms.Yoko Takahashi -Address : c/o Japan Philanthropic Association Nihon Fuudo Building 8F 2-1-13 Shibuya, Shibuya-Ku, Tokyo 150 -Tel : 03-5467-8322 -Fax : 03-5467-2574 -Office Hours : 10:00a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday 1. Newsgroups update Adding new newsgroup of tnn.interv.volunteers.wanted.quake, "Quake related Volunteers Wanted," the number of newsgroups of InterVnet has increased to fourteen. Those newsgroups of "Activities of Non-Profit Organizations" and "Essential Daily Information at the Quake Stricken Sites" have substantial contents of information. Also, lately, number of quality information has been posted to "Discussions on Reconstructing the Quake Stricken Sites." It is regrettable that almost all of the information from corporations has been posted by members of the network, instead of members of those corporations, and that the quantity of "Information in English" was not satisfactory. Also, we have been studying how to get essential information from government. Concerning "Activities of Non-Profit Organizations," we will make a directory of the organizations to post information and will post it to the newsgroup. 2. Connection with ASCIInet and how to post information to InterVnet by E-Mail ASCIInet has provided InterVnet corner since April 5, 1995. About the server machine of InterVnet Suehiro House has changed its host computer as scheduled from the end of March to the beginning of April. Now, the technical people are setting up the new machine. We successively plan to provide information through WWW, World-Wide Web. 4. About information in English Since the quantity of "Information in English" was not satisfactory, we need volunteers to contact information providers of "Messages from the Quake Survivors" and "Discussion on Reconstructing the Quake Stricken Sites" and those who contribute articles to "Activities of Non-Profit Organization," and then to translate their articles from Japanese to English and to post them to "Information in English." We hope any of you who can do this translation work will volunteer to do successively. 5. About the proposal to establish InterVnet Association(tentative name) The Earthquake Network Management Office, consisting of those members of the Earthquake Planning Counsel in Hyogo Prefecture and the members of CSK Earthquake Restoration Support Project, did a feature on InterVnet and made some proposals regarding its utilization in the Number 3 issue of the KOUNOTORI NEWS. The following are extracted from the Number 3 issue of the KOUNOTORI NEWS. * * * * * 2. What is InterVnet? InterVnet is an Internet based network infrastructure, established to provide an information sharing system which connects PC networks in Japan, such as NIFTY-Serve, PC-VAN, People and so on. This communication tool is used to exchange emergency as well as daily information promptly among people in disaster sites, volunteers, corporations, government, mass media and so on. Since InterVnet is an Internet based communication network, it will provide information around the world. 4.2 To establish InterVnet Association(tentative name): The main users of InterVnet right now are people in the disaster sites and individuals of organizations who support them. So, we would like to establish InterVnet Association(tentative name) with representatives of those volunteers and individuals to discuss operations and mechanisms of InterVnet and put together all those ideas in order to propose them to the members of InterVnet. -------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any questions about the articles of KOUNOTORI NEWS, please contact the CSK Earthquake Restoration Support Project as follows.
